About

Singapore travel guide

Singapore packs a great deal into 730 square kilometres — Gardens by the Bay, Sentosa, a zoo that runs at night, and hawker centres where a Michelin-starred meal costs a few dollars.

It is the most frictionless international trip from India: everything works, English is everywhere, and you can cross the country in under an hour on the MRT.

When to go

Best time to visit Singapore

Singapore sits one degree off the equator, so it is hot and humid all year at 26–32°C with no real seasons. February to April is marginally drier and the most comfortable stretch.

November to January is the wettest, with heavy afternoon downpours that usually pass in an hour. Since so much is indoors, rain disrupts less than you would expect. Plan around events instead — the Grand Prix in September and Chinese New Year fill the city and lift prices.

Highlights

Top things to do in Singapore

The places most Singapore itineraries are built around.

  • 01

    Gardens by the Bay

The Supertree Grove light show, the Cloud Forest dome and the Flower Dome.

  • 02

    Sentosa

Universal Studios, S.E.A. Aquarium, beaches and the cable car across from Mount Faber.

  • 03

    Marina Bay Sands SkyPark

The observation deck across the top of the three towers, best at dusk.

  • 04

    Singapore Zoo and Night Safari

Open-enclosure zoo by day and the world's first nocturnal zoo after dark.

  • 05

    Hawker centres

Maxwell, Lau Pa Sat and Tiong Bahru — chicken rice, laksa and chilli crab.

  • 06

    Little India and Chinatown

Temples, markets and the best-value food in the city.

Trip length

How many days do you need in Singapore?

Four to five days. Three covers the city and one island day; five lets you do Sentosa properly and add the zoo without rushing.

FAQs

Singapore questions, answered

The things people ask us most before booking a Singapore trip.

Do Indians need a visa for Singapore?+

Yes, Indian passport holders need a visa, applied for through an authorised agent rather than directly. It is normally straightforward with the right documents, and we assist with the process as part of the booking.

Is Singapore expensive?+

Accommodation and alcohol are expensive; food and transport are not. Hawker centre meals are excellent and cost a few dollars, and the MRT reaches almost everywhere cheaply. Attraction tickets are the other significant cost.

Is it good with young children?+

Among the best anywhere — the zoo, aquarium, Universal Studios and Gardens by the Bay are all geared for children, pavements and transport are stroller-friendly, and standards of hygiene and safety are very high.

Can we combine it with Malaysia or Bali?+

Both are common. Kuala Lumpur is under an hour's flight, and Bali around two and a half. A combined Singapore and Malaysia trip over eight to ten days is one of our more popular South-East Asia routes.
