About
Australia travel guide
Australia is a continent rather than a country-sized trip, and the distances catch people out — Sydney to Perth is roughly Delhi to London.
Most first trips concentrate on the east coast: Sydney, the Great Barrier Reef and Melbourne, with the Outback or Uluru added for those with longer.
When to go
Best time to visit Australia
Seasons are reversed. December to February is Australian summer — good for Sydney and Melbourne beaches, but the far north is in its wet season with heat, humidity and cyclone risk.
September to November and March to May are the best all-round windows, mild in the south and dry in the north. June to August is winter in the south and the ideal time for Queensland, the reef and Uluru.
Highlights
Top things to do in Australia
The places most Australia itineraries are built around.
Sydney
The Opera House, Harbour Bridge climb, Bondi and the coastal walk to Coogee.
Great Barrier Reef
Snorkelling and diving from Cairns or the Whitsundays on the world's largest reef system.
Melbourne
Laneway cafés, street art, and the Great Ocean Road to the Twelve Apostles.
Uluru
The monolith at the centre of the continent, at sunrise and sunset. Climbing it is prohibited out of respect for Anangu custodians.
Gold Coast
Surf beaches and theme parks — Dreamworld, Movie World and Sea World.
Blue Mountains
Eucalypt canyons and the Three Sisters, a day trip west of Sydney.
Trip length
How many days do you need in Australia?
Ten to fourteen days for the east coast. Anything less than a week is hard to justify given the flight time, and domestic distances eat into short trips quickly.
FAQs
Australia questions, answered
The things people ask us most before booking a Australia trip.
Do Indians need a visa for Australia?
Yes, a visitor visa applied for online before travel, with supporting documents on finances and travel history. Processing takes time, so apply well ahead. We assist with the documentation.
How long is the flight from India?
Around twelve to fifteen hours with one stop, usually through Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or a Gulf hub. There are limited direct options from Delhi and Bengaluru to Sydney and Melbourne.
Is it expensive?
Yes, by Asian standards — accommodation, eating out and domestic flights are all costly. Booking domestic legs early and mixing apartment stays with hotels keeps it manageable.
Can we do Sydney, the reef and Uluru in one trip?
Yes, but it needs at least two weeks and two or three domestic flights. For ten days, Sydney plus either the reef or Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road makes a better-paced trip.
